You cannot choose a translator at random or just pick the cheapest one. Anybody can pretend to be a translator, because there are no legal requirements for translation service providers. The market is full of so-called translators whose rates are very low and who hold no degree in translation. Worse, a good number of them do not even live in a country where their target language is an official language. Translation is a real job and sometimes, it is even an art. Good quality translations do not appear out of thin air. A translator needs to acquire very specific skills and follow strict rules. A lot of clients opt for machine translation, because it is quick and really cost effective. These are valid arguments. However, even when these translations are post-edited, they are usually disappointing and are NEVER as good as the work of a qualified translator. For these reasons, you should allocate a reasonable budget for your translation, even if you need to cut back on the number of documents to translate, so you can work with an experienced professional translator. Indeed, it is often better not to translate than to provide a poor translation which is bound to make your products or services look cheap and untrustworthy.
